Cosmetology

A career in cosmetology can open many doors for graduates by providing training and skills necessary to pursue careers in the movie industry as a make-up artist, cosmetic retail associate, cosmetologist or men's hairstylist.

Students will be introduced to the basics of Cosmetology following the curriculum from Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology. This two year curriculum includes hands-on practical and technical procedures. Cosmetology students should perform average to above average in science courses. Students may earn up to 500 clock hours at the Career Magnet Center.  Students will learn the following concepts:

  • Anatomy
  • Principals of Chemistry
  • Principals of Electricity
  • Scientific concepts of hair and scalp
  • Principles of Hair Design
  • Shampoo, Conditioning and Rinsing
  • Nail Care and Manicures

Cosmetology 2

  • Hair Design
  • Manicuring
  • Fundamentals of Haircutting
  • Wet Hairstyling
  • Thermal Hairstyling and Styling
  • Braiding and Braid Extensions
  • Wigs, Weaves, and Hair Enhancement
  • Pedicuring
  • Advanced Nail Techniques
  • Prerequisites: Cosmetology I
