For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Casey Cheramie.

Casey has been with the Lafourche Parish School District for 25 years and is the principal of Raceland Lower Elementary. She graduated from South Lafourche High School in 1998 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Nicholls State University in 2001 and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership in 2016.

She began her teaching career at North Larose Elementary, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2013. She was recognized as Assistant Principal of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Principals in 2019 while she was Assistant Principal of Galliano Elementary. Earlier this school year she was recognized as the Lafourche Parish Principal of the Year and was recently named a state semifinalist in the Louisiana Department of Education’s Principal of the Year awards program.

“Casey Cheramie is a resilient and determined leader who stands firmly behind what she believes will make a difference for her students and school community,” said Lisa Boudreaux, Director of Elementary Education. “Her leadership at Raceland Lower has driven meaningful progress and contributed to a strong foundation of success across all schools in the Raceland community. Casey is a respected professional, mentor, and friend whose influence is felt by colleagues and students alike. I am so proud of her accomplishments!”

While her awards highlight her leadership and professional skill, Casey finds her true motivation in the human element of her work. For her, the most enjoyable part of working with the students and staff of Lafourche Parish is the opportunity to build authentic, lasting relationships.

“The daily moments of connection—greeting students with hugs and high-fives, listening to their stories, and being a consistent, caring presence—are what truly fill your cup,” she said. “Those interactions aren’t just routine; they’re meaningful opportunities to make each child feel seen, valued, and excited to be at school. I also enjoy watching that connection turn into growth. Seeing students gain confidence and succeed, and watching teachers blossom in their practice, brings a deep sense of purpose to our work. At the heart of it, what I enjoy most is connecting with people and making a lasting impact through those relationships.”

Casey’s leadership philosophy was shaped during one of our district’s most difficult chapters, and that experience as an administrator was one that she says left a lasting impact on her.

“A defining moment in my career was the year our community faced the devastation of Hurricane Ida,” Casey shared. “While I had always valued strong systems and high expectations, that experience taught me that relationships must come first. When I prioritized students, staff, and community connections, I saw that systems and expectations were most effective when grounded in trust and care. That lesson continues to guide my leadership today.”

Please join us in thanking Casey for her many years of dedicated service to the Lafourche Parish School District. Her unwavering dedication and commitment have truly made a difference in the lives of countless students and educators. We are so proud of her achievements and grateful to have her on our team.
