The first progress reports of the school year go home today. This means we’re already halfway through the first nine weeks. This marking period ends Oct. 8, and report cards will be issued Oct. 15.

Parents and guardians, please take a few minutes to review your child’s progress report. This is a great opportunity to monitor your child’s academic growth, celebrate successes, and identify areas where additional support may be needed.

LPSD is conducting a pre-service class for anyone interested in becoming a certified contract or substitute bus driver. Training is free for district employees. Registration for non-district employees is $100 (reimbursable after 90 days of employment with LPSD.)

Great leaders never stop learning!

Today we recognize two of our outstanding school administrators, Andrea Rogers, assistant principal of Bayou Blue Elementary, and Cameron Walls, assistant principal of Thibodaux High School, on being chosen for the Louisiana Department of Education's prestigious Aspiring Principal Fellowship. As two of only 50 educators from 22 school systems selected statewide, Andrea and Cameron are participating in this year-long leadership cohort to hone the skills, knowledge and confidence to successfully guide students and staff in the role of principal.

These two leaders are already incredible assets to our district, and we commend their commitment to personal and professional growth, academic excellence, and the long-term success of our schools. We are excited to see the lasting impact they will make on our schools and community, and we’re incredibly proud to have them on our team.

The Lafourche Parish School District McKinney-Vento Program recently hosted its annual districtwide Parental Day at Lockport Middle School. This year’s inspiring theme, “Aviate, Navigate & Educate with the McKinney-Vento Program,” reflected the program’s commitment to helping families overcome barriers, connect with valuable resources, and empower students to achieve academic success.

The event welcomed 140 students and their families for a day filled with educational opportunities, community partnerships, and essential support services.

The program was honored to welcome Dr. Antiqua Hunter, Louisiana Department of Education State McKinney-Vento Coordinator, who delivered an encouraging message to families about the importance of educational stability and the resources available through the McKinney-Vento Program. Pittre Walker addressed the participating vendors, expressing appreciation for their continued partnership and dedication to serving families throughout the parish. Melissa Walker of Catholic Charities shared valuable information about the organization’s programs and services that help families facing housing and other challenges.

A highlight of the event was the participation of 29 community vendors, who provided information and resources to help families access educational, health, counseling, employment, and community support services. Participating organizations included AmeriHealth, Ascent, Bayou Lafourche Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Bayou Land Families Helping Families, Bi-Parish Bayou National Association of University Women (NAUW), Caring Angels Transportation, Catholic Charities, Chiasson Eye Care, Cups and Capabilities, LLC, Community Action, Family Start Corporation, Fletcher Technical Community College, Lafourche Parish Library, Lafourche Parish School District Migrant, Pre-K, and Indian Education Departments, Lafourche Parish Brief Therapy, LPSD PAC Child Search, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Magnolia, Office of Public Health, Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority (SCLHSA), Shining for Cells, and Start Corporation.

The McKinney-Vento Program also extends heartfelt appreciation to its generous contributors whose support helped make the event a success: Acadia Family Dentistry, Big Mike’s Smokehouse, CanU Tri-Parish, Entergy, LOC, Lowe’s, Swamp Bayou Kitchen, Synergy Bank, Visions Outreach, & Williams and Technical College.

“This event would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our community partners, vendors, and contributors,” said the Quintina Brown, LPSD homeless liaison. “Together, we are helping families navigate barriers, access critical resources, and create brighter futures for our students.”

The annual Parental Day serves as the McKinney-Vento Program’s districtwide parental engagement event, bringing together families, schools, and community organizations to strengthen partnerships that support students experiencing homelessness. As a reminder all students have to re-qualify for McKinney-Vento services each school year. Families who are in need of services should complete required forms for the 2026-2027 school year.

Due to the forecasted threat of Tropical Storm Bertha, the Lafourche Parish School District has made the following changes to its operational schedule. On Wednesday, July 22, all LPSD offices and schools will operate on their normal schedules, but all extracurricular activities will conclude by 5:00 p.m. On Thursday, July 23, in order to allow school and district staff to assess any potential damage, all offices and schools will be closed in the morning and reopen at 12:30 p.m. Extracurricular activities are also scheduled to resume at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
