This week, the Lafourche Parish School District joins the nation in celebrating School Social Work Week. Our school social workers play a vital role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being through compassionate guidance, collaboration with families and staff, and a strong commitment to helping every student succeed.
The 2026 theme, “Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact,” reflects the positive difference our social workers make by bringing students, families, and educators together to create a caring and inclusive school environment. Their role is multi-faceted, focused on supporting the "whole child," connecting families to community resources, serving as key members of multidisciplinary school teams, and advocating for equitable practices that promote student success.
Throughout the academic year, school social workers navigate complex challenges and rising student needs with resilience and compassion. We are incredibly proud to celebrate and thank our dynamic team of social workers for the incredible support they provide to our school community.

LPSD is conducting a pre-service class for anyone interested in becoming a certified contract or substitute bus driver. Training is free for district employees. Registration for non-district employees is $100 (reimbursable after 90 days of employment with LPSD.)

We are incredibly proud to announce that Jaxon Arnold and Luke Bourgeois have both been named state finalists in Louisiana’s Student of the Year awards program. This outstanding achievement places them among the top students in the entire state, recognizing not only their academic excellence but also their commitment to leadership, service, and citizenship.
One finalist from each of the state’s eight BESE regions was selected to move on to the final round of competition. Jaxon, an 8th grader at Lockport Middle School, and Luke, a 5th grader at Lockport Upper Elementary, will each be representing BESE Region 3 in their respective grade levels.
This accomplishment is a testament to their perseverance and the support of the families, teachers, and staff who have cheered them on along the way. We are so honored to have such remarkable students representing our district!

The Lafourche Parish School District’s Special Education Department is excited to share the 2026 Statewide Mardi Gras Accessibility Guide, compiled by the Governor’s Office of Disability Affairs.
We know that attending Mardi Gras with a disability requires a little extra planning due to crowds and street closures; however, with the right tools, everyone can have a safe, fun, and magical carnival experience.
This resource highlights accessibility services across Louisiana, including accessible viewing areas, transportation planning and sensory-friendly strategies. While this guide is a fantastic introduction to inclusive festivities in our state, it is not comprehensive. For specific details on routes, precise ADA accommodation locations, and the most up-to-date street closures, we recommend consulting the official website or resource guide for each host city.
We believe everyone should be able to experience the magic of Louisiana’s Mardi Gras, and we hope this guide will help all of our students and their families laissez les bons temps rouler!

Thank you to all of our dedicated school counselors for the vital role they play in helping students reach their full potential and plan for their futures. When administrators, teachers, school counselors and other mental health professionals collaborate, students succeed.
WEATHER UPDATE: In consultation with area emergency management officials, all Lafourche Parish public schools and offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, and all school-related activities are canceled. Decisions regarding Tuesday will be made Monday, and we will provide an update to our families regarding the safe reopening of schools once we are able to assess our campuses for any weather-related impacts. We will also continue working cooperatively with local authorities to ensure conditions are safe for students and staff to return. We will communicate updates on school operations through employee email, SchoolStatus, social media and our website, mylpsd.com. We encourage everyone to stay safe and warm and take precautionary measures.
