How well do you know your principal❓

All month long we’ll be celebrating National Principals Month with a game of “Guess Who? Principal Edition.” Our first mystery principal loved performing the halftime show during Friday Night Lights with the Trojan Lancer Band.

Do you know who this principal is? Leave your guess below and check back tomorrow morning as we reveal his identity and school.

October is National Principals Month, and we're taking this opportunity to celebrate the incredible leaders who guide our schools every single day. It’s a job that’s so much more than a title; principals work tirelessly to ensure every school runs smoothly and every student and staff member succeeds.

To mark the occasion, we’ll be recognizing our awesome administrators with a month-long game of “Guess Who? Principal Edition.” Each day we’ll post a throwback photo of one of our district principals along with some fun facts from their own school days. Drop your best guess in the comments, and make sure to check back the following morning when we reveal the mystery principal.

We are so grateful for all of our principals and their unwavering commitment to our students, staff and school communities. We also appreciate their willingness to share a piece of their past, reminding us that every principal was once a student inspired by dedicated educators who came before them.

We hope you have as much fun guessing as we had putting this together. Stay tuned for our very first throwback later today.

Tour Tuesdays at the Lafourche Parish Career Magnet Center (CMC) officially kicked off last week with our 8th graders from Larose-Cut Off Middle School. Throughout the school year, 8th graders from each of the district’s middle schools will get a first-hand look at the incredible programs awaiting them at the CMC.

During their tour, students explored hands-on courses in career and technical fields, such as marine operations, cosmetology, health sciences, culinary arts, welding, diesel, automotive and more. They also met with CMC teachers to learn more about dual enrollment college courses and connected with local industry partners to learn more about real-world career pathways and apprenticeship and internship opportunities available right here in our community.

We can’t wait for all of our 8th graders to visit the CMC this year and start mapping out their high school journey.

In Lafourche Parish, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, and that journey starts with being present. Great things are happening in every classroom, but when absences add up, the impact is real.

Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing just two days a month (18 days total, or 10 percent of the school year), can begin affecting learning as early as kindergarten. Missing school frequently leads to lower reading levels, decreased academic performance, and difficulty staying on track toward graduation.

September is National Attendance Awareness Month, and we are joining with districts across the state in making regular school attendance a top priority. Our goal is to align with the Louisiana Department of Education’s recommendation of achieving 95 percent or better Average Daily Attendance.

We want to see every student succeed. Thank you to our families, staff and community members for partnering with us to keep our students in class and learning. Every day counts. Every class matters.

Congratulations to the new members of the Superintendent's Employee Advisory Council!

Beginning next month, this amazing group of teachers and support staff from across the district will meet quarterly with the Superintendent to share direct feedback from our classrooms, school sites and transportation experience. They will serve as the voice for their colleagues, helping to improve communication and provide valuable insights on district operations and current issues or events that may affect their work, their coworkers, and/or the school community.

Thank you to everyone who applied and to our new members for their willingness to serve and commitment to making our district an even better place to work and learn.

Dress Down for Dolly

We’re partnering with the Lafourche Education Foundation (LEF) for a special districtwide fundraiser this Friday, September 25 (9/25).

Students can dress down for just $1, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This amazing program provides free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five right here in Lafourche Parish. Let's come together to support LEF and foster a love for reading in our youngest learners!

Reminder: This is a regular dress-down day, NOT a "Dress Like Dolly" day. All students must follow their school’s standard dress-down guidelines.

Thank you for joining us to support early literacy in our community!

The Lafourche Parish School District is proud to join public schools across Louisiana in observing Celebrate Freedom Week!

Held annually each September to coincide with Constitution Day and Constitution Week, this special observance focuses on building civic understanding and constitutional literacy among our students. It provides an opportunity for children of all ages to learn about the fundamental rights we enjoy as Americans and the shared responsibilities we carry as active, engaged citizens.

As we reflect on these basic ideals, we encourage our students to think about the role they can play in shaping our future. By understanding our foundational documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and the freedoms they protect, may they be inspired to become informed leaders of our community and beyond.

Workforce Wednesday is back for Year Four!

We are so excited to kick off another incredible year of our Workforce Wednesday partnership with the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, which brings local business leaders and professionals directly into our 8th grade classrooms to share first-hand information about diverse career pathways available right here in our community. These visits help our students expand their career horizons beyond their immediate families and connect what they learn in school to their future goals.

In its first three years, Workforce Wednesday has connected more than 3,000 middle schoolers with local career experiences and opportunities. As a result of this partnership’s overwhelming success, the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce recently received the 2026 Excellence in Workforce Development Award from the Louisiana Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (LACCE).

Thanks to the Chamber and these participating businesses for investing in the educational journey of our students and strengthening the future workforce of Lafourche Parish:

Great leaders never stop learning!

Today we recognize two of our outstanding school administrators, Andrea Rogers, assistant principal of Bayou Blue Elementary, and Cameron Walls, assistant principal of Thibodaux High School, on being chosen for the Louisiana Department of Education's prestigious Aspiring Principal Fellowship. As two of only 50 educators from 22 school systems selected statewide, Andrea and Cameron are participating in this year-long leadership cohort to hone the skills, knowledge and confidence to successfully guide students and staff in the role of principal.

These two leaders are already incredible assets to our district, and we commend their commitment to personal and professional growth, academic excellence, and the long-term success of our schools. We are excited to see the lasting impact they will make on our schools and community, and we’re incredibly proud to have them on our team.
